Difference between Static and Dynamic Ropes

The main difference from Dynamic and Static Ropes is that Dynamic Ropes are designed with some elasticity. Greater stretch helps them to absorb energy in case of a fall. That makes dynamic ropes perfect choice for rock climbing, while Static Ropes are used mainly for rappelling and rescues.

There are three main types of Dynamic Ropes, as we mentioned in Basic Rock Climbing Equipment article. Single ropes that are used in a single line in the belay chain, Half ropes that are used in two independent belay lines, and Twin ropes that are also used in pair bur parallel to one line.
