SafeWork NSW has made changes to their Safety Rebate to support small business or sale traders affected by Covid-19. They have also updated their eligible items list (that already included safety cones, earmuffs and harnesses) to include new workplace hygiene items such as a sneeze guards.
Now any sole trade or small business who has completed an eligible event after August 1, 2019 has 12 months to apply for the rebate.
The Rebate In short
To be eligible you need to meet a few criteria. These are the most important ones:
- you must have valid ABN, and be registered in NSW
- produce of provide services in NSW
- have 50 or less employees
Generally, if you meet those three criteria you're good. But there are always those pesky little requirements and details so please check the full terms and conditions here.
Then arrange a (digital) meeting with an Inspector to discuss how you can implement new safety measures in your business. You can also attend a webinar that touches on safety issues specific to your industry.
But... you might already be eligible!
If you completed an eligible event from SafeWork in the last year, you can already be eligible! This might be the case if, for example, you recently have watched the webinar on how to talk to your employees about safety. Check out all the eligible events here. You might have to hurry though, as you have 12 months to apply for the rebate for events completed after August 1, 2019.
